When I think of a sorority or fraternity, I can't help it, I think of all of the silly movies that show crazy, out of control parties. But I know that is a stereotype because my mom was a Delta Gamma as WSU and she has told me about her experiences. Admittedly, there is a story about getting drunk and throwing up on her date's shoes but we won't discuss that here...
For this Big Fat Greek Wedding, I envision a relaxed, casual outdoor event at the Hall at Fauntleroy in West Seattle. The Hall is a historic schoolhouse that has been transformed into a wedding venue. The venue holds a large capacity so the lengthy guest list will be accommodated easily.
Because the bride and groom have so many important people in their lives, they found it hard to narrow down their bridesmaids and groomsmen and decided to have a large bridal party. Even the groom's bull dog, the fraternity's unofficial mascot, is included as the ring bearer.
Taking a cue from Jenna Bush's bridesmaid style, the girls will all be outfitted in various shades of pinks and blues and their dresses will be made to fit their figures. No two will be alike. The bride's dress will show off her figure in a long, strapless gown. The men will be outfitted in light tan suits which will fit perfectly into the relaxed atmosphere.
Since the anchor is the symbol for the Delta Gamma sorority, the bride will gift each of her bridesmaid's an anchor charm on a necklace. The groom will gift his groomsmen flasks engraved with their fraternity's Greek letters.
The guests will be pleased by the cupcakes from West Seattle's Cupcake Royale and as a surprise, the bride will have the best man present the groom with his own cake, iced with his fraternities crest.
Since both the bride and groom believe it is important to give back to the community, having been active through their Greek life, they decide to go with a donation in place of favors. Each guest will receive a card notifying them that a donation was made in their honor to a favored charity.
